ART MATERIALS FOR WATERCOLOUR PAINTING, OILS, ACRYLICS, GOUACHE AND INKS

ART MATERIALS FOR WATERCOLOUR PAINTING, OILS, ACRYLICS, GOUACHE AND INKS.  How do you know which to use and when?

There are full details on all these mediums on the Colour Mixing Tutorials course that fully explains how to know which to use and when.

There are many different makes and manufacturers of art materials, so instead of listing them all, I have just listed my favourite ones.  These are good makes but please note that I do not have any affiliate marketing arrangements.  I do not benefit in any way from recommending the books and art materials that I do.  It is important to me to keep it this way so that my opinion is unbiased and there are no annoying adverts on my site.

On the COLOUR MIXING TUTORIALS COURSE we have a lesson on each of these painting mediums so that you can see the benefit of each and which you might use in any given circumstance.  If you have not tried the medium before, just buy one of two small tubes until you see if you like it.

It is easy to find many cheap paints, but harder to know which ones are a better quality.  Below are links to some websites that are super helpful, interesting and informative.  Depending on where in the world you live, the link may vary but you should be able to look it up.

These paint manufacturers have some fabulously informative videos and articles.  With some of them, for example, Winsor and Newton, you can subscribe to free email with downloadable paint charts and useful general information.

Buy the best materials that you can afford and just try to hunt them down at a good price.

INKS. J HERBIN INKS

INKS

Inks have an extraordinary vibrancy.  You can just add a couple of drops to your watercolours to intensify the colour or you can paint just using inks.  You can water them down or use them straight and you can mix the colours just like you can with watercolours.

Personally, I am a fan of J. Herbin inks.

Gouache. Holbein gouache paints.

GOUACHE

Gouache are really useful for artwork that will be reproduced.
